CU is backing up their commitment for collaboration with Colorado’s clean energy industry and entrepreneurs. Trent Yang has joined CU’s Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute as Director of Entrepreneurship and Business Development. Entrepreneurs looking to collaborate on new technology commercialization now have a path for assistance in making a match with programs, researchers, and market support.
The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI) has a mandate to support CU programs for research and development in context of clean energy market needs and to provide the capacity to commercialize the technology developed. The program has three tiers - * research and development * commercialization and * education. For entrepreneurs, the most relevant of these is the commercialization program.
Commercialization:
Internally the commercialization team provides funding and infrastructure to help researchers commercialize technology. This program gives
* market assessment program, proof of concept program
* early stage seed funding to technologies to figure out markets to target
* best route to market and
* patent portfolio.
All of these activities are done in conjunction with Tech transfer office.
On the external facing side RASEI is engaged with industry across the board to get information on the rapidly developing clean energy market. One of their powerful resources is RASEI’s Leadership Council, composed of CEO or VP level representatives from Fortune 500 companies such as Conoco Philips, Xcel Energy, Toyota and more. This group meets three times a year to talk about major market issues and CU’s market differentiation/strategic response to the market. where the market it, what the market is looking for, collaborative research and commercialization opportunities.
If you are an early stage, mid or late-staged company rolling out new clean energy technologies, talk with Trent when you are ready to investigate collaboration with CU’s RASEI programs.
